Our New Name
Why did the library change its name?
The library’s new name, Your VVS Corner Library, reflects our commitment to serving the entire VVS area. The name reflects that the library belongs to everyone and accurately represents the VVS communities that support us through the library tax levy. This helps everyone understand that the library is funded by and serves all residents of the VVS area.
What is the significance of "Your" and "Corner”?
The word “Your” emphasizes that the library belongs to you and every member of the VVS community. The word “Corner” highlights that we are in your corner, supporting you and the community while providing a cozy, welcoming space to learn, connect, and explore.
Will the library’s name change officially?
No, the library’s official entity remains the same. All services, programs, funding, and our official charter with the New York State Education Department remain unchanged. The new name simply reflects our mission and commitment to serving everyone in the VVS community while keeping the library a welcoming place for all.
Can I write checks to the library using the new name?
Yes. The library will be doing business as Your VVS Corner Library, but checks can be made out to either Your VVS Corner Library or Sherrill-Kenwood Free Library. Both are valid and will be processed as usual.
Does the name change affect library services?
No! All of our services, programs, and resources remain the same. You can still borrow books, access the digital library, attend programs, use public computers and WiFi, and participate in events. Everything you’ve enjoyed in the past is still available!
Do I need a new library card?
No. Your current library card remains valid. The name change does not affect library accounts, borrowing privileges, or access to services.
